Spinach and blueberry smoothie – first attempt
My first spinach and blueberry smoothie
Tried my new blender yesterday. Just for a quick blueberry smoothie. It tasted great, but the main reason I bought that blender was to make healthy meals, not just fruit drinks. Spinach is supposed to be ideal for healthy smoothies. I’ve seen lots of recipes on the net containing that vegetable. Would not have been my first choice if I didn’t hear about it, but it actually tastes great.
By tasting great, I mean I can’t taste the spinach at all. 🙂
The taste of spinach disappears among much stronger taste of blueberries and mint, but the nutrients and vitamins should be there and I hope my body will thank me for the effort. Somehow.
Recipe for my spinach and blueberry shoothie, and by that I mean just the ingredients. I will put a bit of everything and see how it tastes. This is not a recipe to follow.
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- A few mint leaves
- Some sweetener – xylitol in this case
- Some yogurt
- Some milk
- Some protein powder

Spinach and blueberry smoothie – with a touch of mint
I’m writing this as I’m drinking it and I’m loving it. The color is not what I expected. I thought it would come out either green for the spinach or purple for blueberries. It came out looking gray-green. Hm…
Mint overpowers any other ingredient in this smoothie. Not in a bad way, but all I can taste and smell is mint. It smells really refreshing.
Taste is really nice too. Very smooth even though I blended it on the lowest power setting. I guess there were no stringy ingredients, so it was easy to blend. Or maybe the blender is really good. I hope so… Next time I will put a little bit less mint. I don’t mind the taste, but I would have preferred a bit more blueberry taste in it.
I can’t taste the protein powder. I’m using unflavored protein concentrate. I will see on the golf range later if I have the energy that the powder promises.
I think I will use less sweetener next time too. I may have added about a tablespoon of xylitol. Can’t taste the yogurt; also I may put less milk; make it a bit more solid.
Overall this spinach and blueberry smoothie it is a very nice drink. Knowing that there are no nasty ingredients should help the digestion. The only thing I don’t like is the pile of dirty dishes in the sink. A bowl of muesli only requires one bowl. This is different. 🙂 I’m not good at cleaning.
