Princeton – an oasis in New Jersey

Our next destination after New York was Washington DC. It’s actually only a few hours drive but we wanted to see a few other places that are on the way. The Amish country, a huge shopping outlet, and Princeton University.

New Jersey looks poor. The streets are dirty, the infrastructure run down, the cars were mostly 20-year-old bombs. That is why Princeton made such a huge impression on us. It is in the middle of New Jersey, but we could clearly see where Princeton started.

Suddenly we were in a green oasis. Beautiful lawns, lines of well looked after trees, clean streets. A huge contrast to the landscape we’ve seen on our way there. There was no mistaking this place for a New Jersey town. This place reeked of money. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I don’t know how much tuition is at that university, but I’m pretty sure it’s not for everyone. Least of all, kids from the surrounding areas. One of my friends here in Sydney went to Princeton. I started to see her in a strange new light.
